The title of the exhibition “Signes Transitoires” refers to Saint Augustin. He opposed the Signa Propria (the signs that designate what they name) to the Signa Translata, signs that refer to the ability to include objects other than those they are supposed to designate.
Such signs take on a value of displacement, passage, modification.
The works on paper by Marc Crépy, Gilbert Desclaux, Catherine Jansens, Jérémy Louvencourt – artists who are meeting for the first time in Perpignan – explore, under their own aspects, transitory signs, these unstable places where the force of the drawn form remains unquestionably unsubdued, following the example of Jérémy Louvencourt’s mathematical formulae, which are converted into a graphic alphabet. Beyond the lability of the drawing, it is also the ability of the gaze to transit forms and sensations from one work to another that the collective exhibition wants to question.
